Dhaka, Jan 5 (UNB) - Riding on three blustery tons, Dhaka Metropolis earned a stunning six-wicket victory against Bangladesh Biman in the final round of the four-day National Cricket League at the Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium here today (Friday).


Three national willow holders -- Mehrab Hossain Opee, Al Shahriar Rokon and Naimur Rahman Durjoy-stroke the three dizzy centuries leading the Metropolis to chase a huge 451-run winning target for snatching six points.


With the day’s magnificent outright victory, Dhaka Metropolis joined in the top slot of the points’ table with national flag career team securing 32 points.


Khulna Division also now topped the points’ tally bagging 32 points crushing holders Chittagong Division by nine wickets in another final round match at Jessore.


At Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium, newcomer Bangladesh Biman declared their second innings in the morning with overnight score of 410 for 7 in 97 overs to set a huge winning target of 451 runs on the last day of the four-day encounter. Biman led the first innings by 40 runs.


Promising opener Mohammad Ashraful and his national glittering partner Mehrab Hossain Opee made a superb start for Dhaka Metropolis contributing 182 runs in the opening stand in 37.1 overs to counter the opposition challenge.


All rounder Ashraful fell victim of a run out scoring 80 runs off 117 balls with eleven hits to the fences while Opee hammered 114 runs off 122 balls that featured 13 boundaries and a over boundary before being caught by Sanwar off Sumon.


After the dismissal of opening pair, Dhaka Metropolis lost two quick wickets within 32 runs but Al Shahriar Rokon and Naimur Rahman Durjoy tamed the opposition hope associating 220-run in the fourth wicket stand to reach the target making 452 runs for 4 in 80.3 overs.


One down Rokon was unbeaten with 128 runs with ten fours and two sixes while national skipper Durjoy played a stormy 106 runs knock facing only 93 deliveries that included five fours and four sixes.


Habibul Bashar Sumon captured two wickets for 65 runs in 13 overs while Sanwar Hossain took one for 37 runs.
