Dhaka-- (UNB) - Holders Chittagong Division made 41 for one after dismissing Dhaka Division for 216 in 84.5 overs on the first day of the three-day Green Delta National Cricket League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday (Thursday).


Winning the toss, Chittagong skipper Minhazul Abedin Nannu sent hosts Dhaka to bat first and restricted them to a gettable total following superb four-wicket haul by both national spinner Enamul Haq Moni and Pakistani Shahed Mehmud.


Moni bowled devastatingly to claim four wickets conceding 48 runs in 30 overs that featured 14 maidens while Shahed Mehmud’s four wickets cost 57 runs in 17.5 overs, including two maidens.


For Dhaka Division, number five batsman Sohel Hossain hammered a half century with just 50 runs off 122 deliveries in 141 minutes hitting eight fours before he was clean bowled by Shahed Mehmud.


One down Sajjad Kadir contributed 39 runs in 68 balls that included six boundaries, number seven bat MH Mridul scored 37 runs in 92 deliveries with four fours and two sixes while Fahim Muntasir Sumit made 25, opener S Hasan 22 and BS Billu not out 22 runs.


New ball bowler Anisur Rahman captured one wicket giving away 39 runs.


Replying to Dhaka’s moderate total, Chittagong Division opened their first innings in the late afternoon and made 41 for one in 16 overs when stumps were drawn for the day.


Promising age-group opener Nafiz Iqbal and Ehsanul Haq Seezan were batting with 12 and 11 runs respectively after the departure of another opener Azam Iqbal for a duck.


Chittagong Division, which started their fifth round with 18 points yesterday, will resume their innings against lowly Dhaka (six points) today (Friday).


Brief score: Dhaka Division – 216 all out in 84.5 overs. Sohel 50, Sajjad 39, Mridul 37, Sumith 25, Billu not out 22, Hasan 22, Bikash 4, Rubel 4, Salim 1, Zakir 1, Sumon 0, extras 11, Moni 4/48, Mehmud 4/57 and Anisur 1/39.


Chittagong Division: 41 for 1 in 16 overs, Nafis 12, Seezan 11, Azam 0, extras 18.
