Dhaka-- (UNB)- Title contender Bangladesh Biman scored 226 runs for eight wickets against Rajshahi Division on the first day of the three-day match of Green Delta National Cricket League at Rangpur yesterday (Thursday).


Aminul Islam Bhola of Rajshahi Division claimed four wickets for 44 runs.


Jahangir Alam Dulu (1) and Mohammad Sharif (0) were on the crease to play the remaining eight overs as 92 overs were bowled yesterday, the first day of the fifth round match of the league.


Javed Omar Belim Gulla and Pakistani Imran Farhat made good start for the league leader Biman after deciding to bat first. But they lost five middle-order wickets within 29 runs after the dismissal of the opening pair, which associated 59 runs.


National opener Gulla made 21 runs off 69 balls with two fours while Imran Farhat, the lone double century maker in the league, added 29 runs off 74 balls that featured two boundaries.


Number seven batsman Ziaur Rashid Rupom scored team highest 49 runs off 144 deliveries with four boundaries while former national captain Faruque Ahmed contributed 44 off 129 balls with five fours and one six.


Wicket-keeper Atiar Rahman added 38 runs off 71 balls with two hits across the rope.


Pacer Aminul Islam Bhola was the main wrecker claiming four wickets for 44 runs in 19 overs and he got good support from Mushfiqur Rahman Babu who captured two wickets for 45 runs.


At Sylhet Stadium, captain Hasibul Hossain Shanta captured four wickets to lead the hosts Sylhet Division to bundle out Khulna Division for a paltry score of 139 runs in 80.2 overs.


But the home side also fell into big trouble in their first innings losing three wickets for only 31 runs in 17 overs at stumps with IR Lalu and Taposh Biswas batting to open their account.


Tariqul Hasan of Khulna Division took two wickets of Syed Parvez (0) and NA Nahid (17) conceding 9 runs in 8 overs while MI Rana captured the other wicket of AKM Emon (10).


Earlier, skipper Biplob helped the group B leader Khulna Division to cross the hundred-mark associating 40 runs in the seventh wicket partnership with Jamaluddin Babu as they lost their six wickets at 42.


Number seven batsman Biplob made 50 runs off 114 balls that included two fours while Babu added 25 off 106 balls with three hits to the fence.


National new ball bowler Shanta grabbed four wickets for 31 runs in 16 overs while Iqbal Hossain took two wickets for 11 runs in 11 overs.


At Barisal Stadium, home side Barisal Division were all out for 239 runs in 97.4 overs in their first innings against Dhaka Metropolis on the first day of the three-day match.


In reply, Dhaka Metropolis scored 74 runs for 2 wickets in 18 overs at the end of the day’s play with Pakistani dashing batsman Zahoor Elahi batting on 54 while Shipon is yet to open his account.


Ahsanullah Hasan took both the wickets of Ashraful (19) and Mehrab Hossain Opee (0) conceding 9 runs.


Earlier, Safayet Islam was the top scorer for Barisal Division’s innings making 40 runs off 102 deliveries with two boundaries while Mizanur Rahman contributed 39 runs off 80 balls.


Ahsanullah Hasan (37), Imran Ahmed (34), Moinuzzaman (27) and Istiaq Ahmed (21) were other notable scorer.


Promising spinner Mohammad Ashraful was the most successful bowler for Dhaka Metropolis capturing three wickets for 47 runs while Zahoor Elahi and Saikat took two wickets each.
