Dhaka-- (UNB)– Holders Chittagong Division took sweet revenge snatching four points from Bangladesh Biman to secure the top slot jointly in the Green Delta National Cricket League.


The defending champions, who lost their first phase three and one-day matches against formidable Biman, earned four points by virtue of a 55-run first innings lead at the Comilla Stadium yesterday (Sunday).


With this, Chittagong Division increased their tally to 18 points and took joint lead in the group A with newcomer national airlines team. They will face each other in a one-day match today (Monday).


Meanwhile, Khulna Division took solo lead in group B with 16 points beating Barisal Division by 9 wickets while Rajshahi Division earned a 57-run victory over Dhaka Division to earn full six points.


Sylhet Division snatched four points from group B leader and newcomer Dhaka Metropolis by virtue of 53-run first innings lead.


The match between Biman and Chittagong was drawn as Biman, which scored 262 runs in their first innings replying to Chittagong’s fighting score of 317, suffered a batting collapse in the second innings.


At the end of play, Biman lost four wickets for 23 runs in 10.5 overs in the second innings after Chittagong Division made 202 runs in their second innings for eight wickets in 78.2 overs.


Spinner Sabbir Khan, who took two wickets in the first innings, was the most successful bowler for Chittagong claiming two wickets for 9 runs while Akram Khan captured another for 2 runs.


Earlier, Chittagong Division made 202 runs in their second innings for eight wickets.


Number eight batsman Golam Mortoza scored team highest 43 runs off 89 balls with five boundaries while Pakistani Shahed Mehmood contributed 42 off 122 deliveries with two hits over the rope.


Captain Minhajul Abedin Nannu added 28, Azam Iqbal 22 and Nafis Iqbal, who made a sparkling 147-run in the first innings, added 14 runs.


Saifullah Jem and Pakistani Imran Farhat, who hammered double century against Chittagong in the first phase, took two wickets each for 23 and 54 runs respectively.


At Sylhet Stadium, host Sylhet Division snatched four points from group B leader Dhaka Metropolis by virtue of first innings lead.


Last year runners-up Sylhet Division for the first time earned points from three-day match to increase their tally to 11 while newcomer Dhaka Metropolis gained 14 points to secure second place.


The home team, which took 53-run first innings lead, set 278 runs target for Dhaka Metropolis making 225 runs for six wickets in 114.5 overs.


Dhaka Metropolis again fell trouble in their second innings losing three wickets for 26 runs in 12 overs with Ashraful reaching double digit (11) at the close of play.


Skipper Hasibul Hossain Shanta, Taposh and Iqbal Hossain took one wicket each.


Earlier, Sylhet Division opened their second innings this (Sunday) morning resuming from 56 runs for the loss of three wickets and made 225 runs for six.


Alok Kapali, who bowled devastatingly to take five wickets for 33 runs, played a calm innings making 76 runs off 240 deliveries that included only three boundaries.


Opener Syed Parvez also faced 272 balls to score a patient 65 runs that also featured three boundaries.


Promising national cricketer Rajin Saleh Alam, who hit a magnificent ton of 115 runs in the first innings, remained unbeaten with 34 runs hitting two boundaries.


Niamur Rashid Rahul captured two wickets for 22 runs while Ashraful, Opee and Saikat took one wicket each.
