Dhaka-- (UNB) – Holders Chittagong Division took a 55-run first innings lead against formidable Bangladesh Biman on the second day of a three-day return match of the Green Delta National Cricket League at the Comilla Stadium yesterday (Saturday).


With this first innings lead, Chittagong Division are not only poised for taking revenge of their defeat as they trailed in the first innings against Biman in the first phase, but also posed a strong challenge to league leaders national airlines team.


In the home match, Chittagong Division, which posted a fighting score of 317 for all on Friday with a sparkling 147-run knock by Nafis Iqbal in the first innings, yesterday restricted Biman to 262 runs all out in 88 overs in the first innings.


National opener Javed Omar Belim Gullu top scored for national flag carrier Biman with 71 runs off 104 balls in 153 minutes with 12 hits to the fence before he was trapped leg before wicket by Shafiuddin Babu.


National top order batsman Habibul Bashar Sumon, who came to bat at number three, added 44 runs off 109 deliveries with six fours while former national cricketer Sanwar Hossain, batting at number six, made 42 off 86 balls with four fours.


Biman’s Pakistani cricketer Imran Farhat, who hammered double century against Chittagong in the first phase, went back to the dressing room yesterday scoring only 9 runs, caught by another Pakistani Shahed Mehmood off a Shafiuddin Babu delivery.


Skipper Aminul Islam Bulbul also had a lean day yesterday as he made only four off 29 balls before being bowled by Babu.


Former national pacer Shafiuddin Babu was the most successful Chittagong bowler to capture four vital wickets of Gulla, Imran, Bulbul and Hasannuazzaman conceding 52 runs in 22 overs that featured seven maidens.


Sabbir Khan took two wickets for 31 runs in 12 overs with two maidens while Suja Irfan claimed one wicket for 50 runs.


Chittagong Division resumed their second innings in the late afternoon yesterday and remained not out without scoring any run playing two overs when stumps were drawn for the day.


At the Sylhet Stadium, host Sylhet Division also took a first innings lead against Dhaka Metropolis at the end of the second day yesterday (Saturday).


The home team, which closed their first innings Friday at 220 for all aided by promising national cricketer Rajin Saleh Alam’s 115 runs, bundled out Dhaka Metropolis team yesterday for 167 runs in 77.2 overs to take a 53-run lead in the first innings.


Skipper Khaled Mahmud Sujon (45), national opener Mehrab Hossain Opee (42), Al Shahriar Rokon (20) and Ashraful (19) were the only Dhaka Metropolis batsmen who reached double figures.


Aloke Kapali of Sylhet bowled devastatingly to take five wickets for 33 runs in 16 overs while national spinner Mohmamed Rafique claimed three for 33 in 13.2 overs.


Sylhet Division opened their second innings last (Saturday) afternoon and scored 56 runs in 36 overs for the loss of three wickets with opener Syed Parvez and Aloke Kapali batting on 22 and 0 respectively at stumps.


Zia, Rahul and Ashraful of Dhaka Metropolis took one wicket each.
