Dhaka-- (UNB) - Bangladesh's World Cup hero Minhajul Abedin Nannu finally sent letters to Cricket Board president and selection committee yesterday wishing to play again for the national side.

The 10th member of the test nations club will take on neighbour India in the maiden test from November 10-14 in Dhaka.

Confirming Nannu's letter, BCB president Saber Hossain Chowdhury told newsmen yesterday that said he would refer the matter to the selection committee for consideration.

The committee sits on Monday to select the national squad for the inaugural test.

However, the BCB boss personally doesn't like such occasional return of any player who retired from international cricket. "I don't encourage it considering the future."

He said the selection committee is the only authority to pick up any player if they think the player is good enough to play in international level and all conditions.

But the head of the selection committee, Tanveer Haider, also vice-president of the Cricket Board, said Nannu's matter should be approved by the board, which also meets on Monday.

The BCB president said they would seek report from South Africa tour manager, coach Eddie Barlow and Physio Benjafield before the board meeting to select the national squad.

Seasoned batsman Nannu, who was included in the World Cup squad by a dramatic decision, retired from the international cricket with brilliant performance in the England World Cup.

BCB boss Saber Chowdhury still believes that the decision to include Nannu in the World Cup squad was right but the procedure and practice was wrong.

"Every player should have a minimum commitment to play a certain period of time in different conditions and different versions of cricket, not for only a match," he observed.

The BCB president said Nannu should play minimum three years for the national side in every version if he is really capable and fit for play.

"At the moment, Nannu is not playing in the squad and he didn't take part in the training camp, so his condition is unknown."

Emphasising inclusion of young and promising players he said "We should keep in mind the next World Cup to be held in South Africa in 2003 and in West Indies 2007 on bouncy wickets."

About Bangladesh's disastrous performance in South Africa tour, Saber said "It is true that other experienced teams of the subcontinent also face trouble in the South African wickets but Bangladesh's performance was too bad."
