Linares, Mar 8: The word’s top ranked chess player Gary Kasparov of Russia and his fellow countryman Vladimir Kramnik, ranked 3rd, were tied for first place, after both draw in the seventh round of the Linares Grandmaster Tournament, reports AP.

Kamparov gained a clear edge against FIDE world champion Alexander Khalifman but was unable to press home the win.

Kasparov came up with a new move seven against the relatively relatively rare sideline of the Winnower Variations of the French Defense adopted by Khalifman He soon built Up what grand master Valerie Solve called   dangerous attack. Kalif managed to halt the attack, but that did not solve his problems. Kasparov had a strong Knight outpost on e5 and Khalifman was stuck with the bad bishop characteristic of the French (i.e., a bishop with no scope be came it’s blocked by it’s own pawns).

Khalifman was able to exchange off White strong knight at the time control but While’s advantage persisted. Kasparbov maneuvered for another fifteen moves, but Khalifman was able to keep all of his weak points covered. Kasparov conceded the draw on move 55.

Despite Anand’s material advantage of a rook for knight and pawn, Kramnik's position offered no d5. Since the position offered on real winning chances to a draw.
