Dhaka-- (UNB) – Tanima Parveen finished runner-up in the 22nd National Women’s Chess Championship beating last year’s champion Nazrana Khan Iva in the play-off match at the Chess Federation auditorium here yesterday (Monday).
Country’s lone International Women Master Rani Hamid of Bangladesh Biman clinched the title on Sunday to celebrate her 13th crown in the women’s national meet.
In the position-deciding play-off this afternoon, Tanima beat Iva twice forcing her opponent to the third place.
In another play-off match, Farzana Khan Ava got walkover against Syed Afsana Parveen Nira to place 7th in the meet.
Final standings: Ist – Rani Hamid (8 points), 2nd –Tanima Parveen (7.5 pts), 3rd - Nazrana Khan Iva (7.5 pts), 4th – Zakia Sultana (6 pts), 5th – Afroza Khanam Bablee (5 pts), 6th Masuda Begum (3 pts), 7th Farzana Khan Ava (2.5 pts), 8th - Syeda Afsana Parveen Nira ( 2.5 pts), 9th - Sharmeen Sultana Shireen (1.5 pts), 10th - Saima Almas (1.5).
