Dhaka-- (UNB) - Bangladesh Biman maintained their solo lead in the Metropolis First Division Chess League securing 27.5 points at the end of the 8th round match held at Chess Federation Auditorium yesterday (Monday).


In the 8th round match, Biman drew with Leonine Chess Club by 2-2 points.


IM Ziaur Rahman of Biman beat GM Niaz Murshed of Leonine while GM Igor Rausis of Leonine beat IM Reefat Bin Sattar of Biman. IM Abdullah Al Rakib and FM Syed Tahmidur Rahman of Biman drew with IM Sankar Roy and Taibur Rahman Sumon of Leonine in the day's engagements.


Last year's runners-up Titas Club again advanced to the second slot in the League with 26 points while Leonine Chess Club went down to the 3rd position having 25 points.


In the day's eighth round, Titas beat Rajshahi Daba Unnaon Sangha by 4-0 points. FM Enamul Hossain Rajib, Saifuddin Lavlu, Kh. Aminul Islam, Syed Ruhul Kabir Shiplu of Titas won against Kawsar Ali Eti, Alamgir Hossain, Shibli Noman and Rabiul Islam of Rajshahi.


Bangladesh Ansar are now in the 4th position with 25.5 points. Ansar beat Anushillan Daba Krira Chakra by 4-0 points. Sk. Nasir Ahmed, Sawkat Hossain Pollab, Abu Sufian Sakil and Syed Mahfuzur Rahman Imon of Ansar won against Ahmed Hossain Majumdar, Kazal Mahmud, Amir Hossain and Sohel Chowdhury of Anushillan.


In the day's other matches: Narayangonj District Chess Players Association


beat Farashgonj Sporting Club by 2.5-1.5 points, Sonali Bank beat Uttara Daba Sangha by 4-0 points, Dhaka University Chess Team beat Nakhalpara Yubo Sangha by 2.5-1.5 points and Mohakhali Prodip Sangha beat Kamlapur Samaj Kalyan & Krira Sangha by 3-1 points. Anu Memorial Club drew with Uttara Central Chess Club by 2-2 points.


Today (Tuesday) will be the rest day of the League. The 9th round match will be held on Wednesday from 2:30 pm at the same venue.


League standing after the eighth round matches are :


Points: 27.5- Biman, 26- Titas, 25-Leonine, 24.5-Ansar, 19- Narayangonj, 19- Prodip, 16.5-Kamlapur, 16.5-Frashgonj, 16 Dhaka University, 14.5-Nakhalpara, 14-Sonali Bank, 11.5- Anushillan-, 9- Anu Memorial, 7.5- Uttara Daba Sangha, 5- Uttara Central, 4- Rajshahi.
