Chittagong (UNB)- An opposition-backed trade union threatened to paralyse the seaport if the date for the postponed CBA elections was not announced by September 19.

The ultimatums came from a rally of the port unit of Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, the labour front of BNP.

General secretary of the unit Nurulla Bahar issued the warnings from the gathering in front of Port Bhaban this (Monday) morning.

They also announced demonstrations to be staged from September 10 to 19. "Next course of action will be announced on September 20 if the demand is not fulfilled," the rally declared.

Other five trade unions also are staging several programmes seeking announcement of a fresh date of CBA poll.

The election scheduled for August 21 was postponed by High Court orders on August 20 following a case filed by a worker who was left out from the voter list.

The workers agitated by the postponement suspended all activities in the port from 8am to 10pm on August 21 and the port authorities reached a compromise deal with them promising possible legal efforts to withdraw the bar by September 6.
