Dhaka (UNB)- Bangladesh and Kuwait agreed to activate their joint economic commission for boosting trade and investment between the two countries locked in a ‘Trade and Economic Agreement’ since 1979.

The agreement was reached yesterday in a meeting between Bangladesh Commerce Minister Abdul Jalil and visiting Kuwaiti Minister for Commerce and Social Welfare Abdul Whab Al-Wazzam, who is leading a delegation.

Commerce Secretary Golam Rahman and Ambassador of Kuwait in Bangladesh Ali Hossain AL-Sammak were present during the talks.

The Kuwaiti minister billed the existing trade relations between the two countries “excellent”, but saw tremendous potential to further strengthen the ties.

He stressed the need for exchanging government and private trade delegations to explore more opportunities for trade and investment.

Abdul Jalil gave a brief account of investment climate, policies and incentives for foreign investors and invited entrepreneurs from the oil-rich Gulf State to invest in Bangladesh.
