ECNEC endorse seven projects

Dhaka (UNB)- The highest economic policymaking body yesterday endorsed seven development schemes, including third phases of the Dhaka Integrated Flood Protection and Greater Chittagong Electricity Distribution projects.


With Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) in a meeting gave the approval to the projects involving Tk 1483.74 crore, including Tk 753.65 crore in project aid.


Besides, two power transmission projects aimed at improving power supply in the capital city were also placed for ECNEC consideration.


The projects are: construction of Comilla Betar building (amended), renovation of four police training centres, carpeting of Panchgarh Sugar Mill-Debiganj road, Tk 266.59 crore Dhaka Integrated Flood Protection, Tk 733.51 crore Greater Chittagong Electricity Distribution projects, Tk 365.16 crore post-literacy and continued education project and modernising of signaling interlocking of systems of seven railway stations of western zone.


Siddhirganj-Maniknagar 132-KV transmission line construction project and linking of Tongi-Ulan Second Circuit with Basundhara grid substation were placed at the ECNEC meeting. The projects, worth Tk 45.91 crore, were earlier approved by State Minister for Planning Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir.


Finance Minister Shah AMS Kibria, Education Minister ASHK Sadique, Food Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Industries Minister Tofail Ahmed, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, Communications Minister Anwar Hossain, State Minister for Information Prof Abu Sayeed, State Minister for Energy and Mineral Resources Prof Rafiqul Islam and State Minister for Planning Prof Rafiqul Islam attended the meeting.


Cabinet Secretary and secretaries of the relevant ministries were also present.
