Dhaka (UNB) - Bus and minibus fare has been raised by 15 paisa per kilometer in the wake of the government's oil price hike to the extent of 20 per cent last month.

The decision was taken at a meeting between Communication Minister Anwar Hossain Manju and leaders of Bangladesh Road Transport Samity in his office yesterday.

A brief handout issued by the Minister's office said increase in bus fare was made on the basis of recommendation of an expert committee that considered the higher operational cost of transports.

"Another 15 paisa per kilometer will be raised next year," said the handout.

The meeting also decided that two weighing machines will be installed soon at Mirpur and Fouzdarhat terminal to check against overloading of trucks.

State Minister for Communication Anisul Huq Chowdhury and Torad Transport Association leaders Makbul Hossain MP, Asad Uz Zaman Bhuiyan and senior officials were present at the meeting.
