Dhaka (UNB) - Members of the parliamentary standing committee on commerce advised the Export Promotion Bureau to add new products in the country's export basket for enhancing earnings.

In a meeting of the committee yesterday (Thursday), they also suggested better coordination of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the Bangladesh missions abroad to increase export of various products.

The parliamentary watchdog stressed the need for increasing the export volume of traditional items, including readymade garments, leather and leather products and frozen foods.

The meeting discussed the problems in increasing exports and advised the government to immediately resolve the already-identified problems in order to expand export market.

Committee chairman Raziuddin Ahmed Raju presided over the meeting attended by members Mir Sakhawat Ali Daru, M Mohibur Rahman Manik, Master Mojibar Rahman, Akhtar Hamid Siddiqui and Prof Shahidul Islam.

Later, the lawmakers visited head office of the Export Promotion Bureau where the officials apprised them of EPB's organisational structure, manpower and activities.
