Bagerhat--(UNB) – The users of country’s second seaport Mongla are concerned over frequent work stoppage and strikes by the labourers on various issues. They said loading and unloading of goods in the port are being disrupted due to the strikes. The latest one was enforced by the workers who use to stitch up sacks of unloaded goods. Work in the port remained suspended for about 36 hours from Saturday night as the sewing labourers enforced the strike demanding appointment of workers in the clinker-laden ships. However, the dock-workers withdrew the strike and joined their work Monday morning following a tripartite negotiations among the workers, Dock Labourers Board and the ship owners. They will hold another round of meeting today (Wednesday) to resolve the problem. |
