Dhaka--(UNB) - United Nations Convention on Control of Desertification (UNCCD) assured of providing financial and technical assistance and formulation of project in Bangladesh in order to control desertification.

The assurance came from the concluding session of the 12-day convention held in Bonn of Germany on December 22, said an official handout yesterday.

The convention also pledged to organise a regional workshop on control of desertification in Bangladesh.

Representatives from 170 member countries, including Bangladesh, took part in the convention.

State Minister for Forest and Environment HN Ashikur Rahman led the four-member Bangladesh delegation. The other members of the delegation included Bangladesh Ambassador in Germany Kazi Anwarul Masud, Chief Forest Conservator Mohammad Nuruzzaman and Senior Assistant Secretary Sadaruddin Ahmed.
