8,000 fishery villages to be set for expanding Fisheries Industry

Dhaka-- (UNB)- A meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Fisheries and Livestock Ministry yesterday discussed the objective and various aspects of the fourth fisheries project.


Chaired by ASM Firoz the meeting also discussed elaborately the financing and implementing organizations of the project and its progress.


The meeting was told that 8,000 fishery villages would be set up in 200 upazilas of 30 districts. Some 2 lakh fish cultivators, drawn 25 from each village, will be imparted training.


The meeting asked the ministry to furnish a report in the next meeting on alleged irregularities in implementation of the project.


The meeting as per the decisions of previous sittings unanimously decided to take action against the five haor managers of Jessore immediately and asked the ministry not to extend any government facilities to them until realization outstanding dues from them.


Syed Rafiqul Huq, AK Fazlul Huq, Kamrun Nahar Putul, Mozammel Hossain, Alhaj Dr Mohammad Ali, M Fazlul Huq and M Shamsuzzoha Khan attended the meeting.


Earlier the meeting expressed deep shock at the demise of former Speaker Mirza Golam Hafiz and Syed Kamal Bakht Saki MP and observed one-minute silence to pay respect to the departed souls.


State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Prof Abdul Quddus attended on special invitation, said an official handout.
