ECNEC endorse 14 development projects

Dhaka--(UNB) – The Executive Committee of National Economic Council yesterday endorsed 14 development projects, including some major ones, involving Tk 3,033.59 crore with Tk 798.71 crore in project assistance.


ECNEC gave the approval in its 96th meeting in the NEC conference room with Finance Minister and alternate Chairman of the council Shah AMS Kibria in the chair.


The endorsed projects are: Youth Training and Self Reliance Project (third amendment), Census and Household counting (Revises), Special Development Project of Chittagong University, Training and Rehabilitation Centre of Socially Disabled Women, Boosting up of Rural Economy by Rural Industry Development, Collection of Container Handling Instruments, including Gantry Crane, and setting up of second-class fire service and civil defence station in 66 important thanas and places and three rivers.


Other projects are Special Apartment Implementation Project (SAIP), Project on construction of rural pools and culverts at low cost (second phase), Rural Development Project-24: Greater Faridpur Infrastructure Development Project (infrastructure development through employment and participation) amended, Flood Rehabilitation Project in areas (greater Khulna, Jessore and Kushtia) where Rural Development Project-18 has been concluded, Integrated Agriculture Development Project, including pineapple and orange, in greater Sylhet district, upgrading Chittagong MA Hannan Airport to international airport facilitating wide-bodied aircraft movement (amended) and North West Crop Diversification Project.


State Minister for Planning who approved a number of projects apprised the ECNEC meeting of the schemes.


The projects are construction of bridges over the river Buri and Titas at 31st and 43rd kilometres of Companiganj-Nabinagar-Shibpur Radhika road; bridge over the river kongsho at 52nd km on Sunamganj-Dharmapasha-Netrakona road; Tourist Motel and Resort Cetre in Khagrachhari; Tourist Motel Centre in Banderban; construction of ferry terminal and ferry ghat and related facilities in Haringhat and Alubazar areas aiming to introduce ferry service on Chandpur-Shariatpur river route; expansion and development regarding drinking water supply in Mongla Port; setting up eco-park (revised) at Modhutila and Gajni Resort Centre; Forest Resources Management Project (Institute of Forestry and Environment Science, past of CU) (revised); Forest Resources Management Project (part Forest Directorate) (second amended); a number of public welfare projects like passenger shed, undergoing implementation by KDA; project on water supply in Bangabandhu International Conference Centre and construction of sewerage line; construction of shrine complex (second revised) of father of the national Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara; replacement, reconstruction and machinery relocation of Hydrogen Plant in Dhaka, project on setting up five boat centres in different places of the country and development of country boats by providing technical assistance.


Local Government Minister Zillur Rahman, Education Minister ASHK Sadique, Commerce Minister MA Jalil, Industry Minister Tofail Ahmed, Civil Aviation, Tourism and Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Science and Technology Minister Mohammad Nuruddin Khan, State Minister Dr Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir, State Minister for Youth, Sports and Cultural Affairs Obaidul Quader and State Minister for Shipping Mofazzal Hossin attended the meeting.


Cabinet Secretary, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister, Finance Secretary, Planning Secretary, members of planning commission, ERD Secretary, IMED Secretary and concern secretaries were present.
