Crops worth Tk 574.76 crore damaged by flood |

Dhaka-- (UNB)- A meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture Ministry yesterday reviewed post-flood agriculture rehabilitation process in the southwest districts of the country. The meeting was informed that standing crops on 1,83,697 hectares of land worth Tk 574.76 crore were damaged in 92 upazilas of 16 districts, said a press release. The officials of the Ministry informed the meeting that Finance Ministry allocated Tk 10.50 crore against its demand of Tk 45.50 crore for agriculture rehabilitation in the affected districts. The money was reallocated to Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation and district administrations, district Agriculture Extension Departments concerned to procure various seeds. Besides, discussing on the basic agriculture research and technology the meeting laid emphasis on short and long term planning to convert the manpower of agricultural research institutions into skilled human resources and its implementation in phases. Presided over by its chairman Dr TIM Fazle Rabbi Chowdhury, Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury, Imdadul Haq, Raihanul Haq, Abul Kalam Azad Siddiqi, Mujibur Rahman Sarwar and Abdul Wahab attended the meeting. |
