Dhaka--(UNB) – Bangladesh Bank will experimentally issue polymer notes of Tk-10 denomination from the banking counter of its Motijheel office on December 14.

Later, the reddish new-look notes will also be available with the banking counters of other offices of the central bank, said a BB announcement yesterday (Thursday).

Alongside the new notes the old ones of Tk 10 will remain in circulation in the market, it said.

The new note is featured with the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and photograph of the national mosque on the front side while the back is inscribed with the Sangsad Bhaban and national mausoleum.

Safety measures of the note include image of Royal Bengal Tiger, see-through image of number 10 (value of the note), optical thread and the design of water lily on the see-through window.

The note is restricted from being bundled with stapler pins or punch through to ensure expected longevity. It is also advised to avoid sharp folding of the note as it may be damaged like paper notes when it is folded with sharp-nail pressure.

Use of polymer notes is increasing day by day in the world due to its longevity than paper notes. It is more durable and water can’t damage it. The notes are claimed to be 10 times durable than the paper money.

Since Australia introduced polymer notes, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Papua New Guinea, Malaysia, Singapore and Kuwait are among the countries to have followed suit.
