Dhaka, Dec 5 (UNB) – Readymade garment exporters in a meeting yesterday decided to expedite safety measures for factory workers to avert recurrence of tragic incidents like in Chowdhury Knitwear in Narsingdi that left 40 workers dead.

Exporters belonging to three organisations agreed that they would take all-out efforts to ensure workers’ overall safety at workplace from their respective part.

The meeting of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) and Bangladesh Terry Towel and Linen Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BTTLMEA) was held at BGMEA office.

Representatives of the organisations were present in the meeting with BGMEA president Anisur Rahman Sinha in the chair.

The meeting also decided to take measures for ensuring compensation for the families of workers killed in fire at the Narsingdi factory.

Leaders of the organisations would sit again on Saturday to take final decision and fix policy in this regard.
