Bagerhat--(UNB) – Workers of Mongla Port yesterday enforced an indefinite hartal in the port area to realise their one-point demand.

Port sources said stevedores first stopped loading and unloading on Friday demanding booking of 18 workers instead of 12 for each ship in the port. Later, all workers of the port extended solidarity with them.

Witnesses said shops and business establishments in the area remained closed in response to the nonstop hartal.

The striking workers brought out a procession in the port area this noon. Another procession was taken out in the afternoon where family members of the workers joined them.

They later held a rally on Mongla main road to press their demand.

Some of the workers said they compelled to enforce the hartal after talks between the port authority and CBA leaders failed.
