Dhaka--(UNB) – Parliamentary Standing Committee on Food Ministry yesterday announced the government’s internal foodgrain procurement policy for 2000-2001.


After holding a threadbare discussion, the meeting announced the policy, aiming to keep foodgrain price stable, provide price support to the growers and create a buffer stock.


It was informed at the meeting that 2 lakh metric tons of rice and 73,000 mts of paddy would be procured during the 2000-2001 procurement season which already started on December 3 and will continue till February 28, 2001.


The committee asked the authorities concerned to strictly follow the policy during the procurement drive.


Chaired by Committee Chairman Abdul Hakim, the meeting was attended, among others, by its members Dr Alauddin Ahmed, M Joynal Abedin Bhuiyan, Bharati Nandi Sarker, Joynal Abedin Sarker and Alhaj Shamsuddin Ahmed.


Deputy Ministry for Food Dhirendra Devnath Shambu attended the meeting on special invitation, said a Parliament Secretariat press release.
