Spot export orders received at BATEXPO2000 increased by 11 per cent |

Dhaka (UNB) – Spot export orders for readymade garments received at BATEXPO 2000 increased 11 per cent to USD 48.30 million compared to the previous year’s apparel show. The spot orders to export stock-lot items also increased to USD 5.20 million from USD 3.12 million in 1999, BGMEA president Anisur Rahman Sinha told a press conference at Hotel Sonargaon Hotel yesterday (Friday). Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) organised the 3-day Bangladesh Apparel and Textile Exposition (BATEXPO) 2000, the biggest in the Asia Pacific region, at the Pan-Pacific hotel. Sinha said 125 foreign buyers, 25 of them new, and 635 local representatives of foreign buyers visited the fair, concluded Thursday, also generating an expected business worth USD 525 million. He said each of the 79 participants on an average received 25 inquiries about export of readymade garments and each of the 32 BGMEA members received 12 inquiries regarding sale of their ready stock. Buyers, buying houses and their representatives from USA, Canada, UK, Germany, Denmark, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Austria, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan and Dubai visited the clothing bazaar. At BATEXPO 1999, 110 foreign buyers, including 20 new ones, and 450 local representatives of foreign buyers, had taken first-hand idea about the garment products generating business worth USD 43.52 million from spot orders and USD 3.12 million from stock lots. |
