Dhaka-- (UNB) - Industries Minister Tofail Ahmed yesterday stressed the need for expanding banking facilities in rural areas.

"The facilities should also reach the rural areas," he said while inaugurating the 8th branch of Standard Bank Ltd at Kamal Ataturk Avenue in Gulshan.

As rural development is the precondition for overall economic development of the country, all modern facilities, including banking, should be available in rural areas as well, he said.

He said the government made it mandatory to open the 5th branch of a bank in the rural area.

AKM Rahmatullah MP was present as special guest on the occasion. SBL Chairman Kazi Akramuddin Ahmed presided over the function.
