Bangladesh to receive German grant & food aid through WFP

Dhaka-- (UNB) – Bangladesh will receive a German grant of 63.4 million Deutsche Mark, equivalent to about Tk 146 crore, in financial and technical cooperation assistance for year 2000.


The allocation for development finance is 20 per cent higher than that of 1999.


In addition, DM 2.40 million will be provided as Food Aid through World Food Programme.


German Delegation leader Dr Rainer Goerdeler, deputy director general of German Economic Cooperation and Development Ministry, announced the grants as a three-day bilateral annual negotiations 2000 on economic cooperation concluded here yesterday (Thursday).


Joint secretary of the Economic Relations Division Mohammad Abdur Razzak led the home side at the talks.


Capping the talks the delegation leaders signed the summary record of the negotiations for the respective governments. German Ambassador in Dhaka Uwe Schramm was present.


The financial cooperation projects include Mymensingh Combined Cycle Power Station, Phase III (DM 25.00 million), Comprehensive Primary Education Programme (DM 5.00 million), Programme for the Promotion of Investment in the Private Sector (DM 10.00 million) and HPSP (DM 10.00 million), Procurement of Oral contraceptives.


Among the technical cooperation projects are Promotion of Renewable Energies (DM 4.00 million), Comprehensive Primary Education Programme (DM 2.00 million), Basic Health Services and Community Development in the CHT Areas (DM 1.00 million), Promotion of Gender Equality (DM 3.00 million) and FBCCI Data Bank and Information System (DM 1.00 million).
