Dhaka-- (UNB) – The National Board of Revenue has collected Tk 5,254 crore during July-October of the current fiscal year, exceeding the target by more than Tk 114 crore.

The earnings were Tk 935 crore or 21.65 per cent higher than the revenue collected in the first four months of the last fiscal year.

Of the total amount, Tk 3005 crore came from taxes and duties at import level, Tk 1396 crore from local level, Tk 794 crore from income tax and Tk 59 crore from other taxes and duties.

Finance Minister Shah AMS Kibria in a meeting in the NBR conference room yesterday (Thursday) expressed his satisfaction at the revenue performance and hoped the pace would continue during the rest of the fiscal year.

“The image of the officials of the department would be brighter if the target is achieved,” he said.

The Finance Minister asked the NBR authorities to more vigorously apply the method of reward and punishment for success and failure in netting revenues from the taxpayers.

He assured the NBR officials of taking all-out steps for increasing logistic supports and facilities, including office space and transport.

NBR Chairman Zakir Ahmed Khan apprised the meeting of various measures taken to accelerate the revenue- earning activities. He said various measures, including checking tax evasion, strengthening monitoring and supervising and ensuring accountability, had been taken.

He stressed incentive and increasing the facilities, including transport facility, to strengthen revenue- earning drive.

Senior revenue officials were also present in the meeting.
