Dhaka (UNB) - Comptroller and Auditor General Syed Yusuf Hossain yesterday submitted audit reports from 1996 to 1997 to President Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed at Bangabhaban.


These include 27 reports, including one performance audit report, 11 special audit reports, 12 annual reports, 2 appropriation accounts and a finance account of the government.


The reports contain 1,069 audit observations, involving Tk 2,027 crore. The audit observations mainly contain cases of embezzlement, theft, wastage, non-recovery of VAT and income tax, noncompliance of financial rules and regulations.


Apprising the President of the irregularities in the audit reports, the Auditor General stressed the need for ‘internal control measures’ in all ministries, divisions and executive agencies for prevention of irregularities, and taking prompt corrective measures to ensure sound management practices.


The President thanked the Auditor General for submitting the reports and appreciated the efforts taken by him.


He also emphasised the importance of sustainability of these reform agenda.
