Dhaka-- (UNB) – Brussels-based ABX Logistics, one of the world’s top 10 transport and logistics providers, has opened a subsidiary in Bangladesh to help new buyers of readymade garments.


“Many of the European RMG buying brand companies asked the logistics provider for the subsidiary,” said Syed Sadaquat Hossain, executive director of ABX Logistics (Bangladesh) Ltd.


Chief executive officer for the Asia Pacific Region of the ABX Logistics Eddie Dufrenne announced the launching of its subsidiary in Bangladesh at a press conference at Sonargaon Hotel yesterday . The company starts providing services in a month.


Hossain said at least 10 buyers from Italy, Germany and France contacted the ABX logistics, which has a network of companies in 33 countries, expressing their interest to place buying orders in the country and they are already working in Bangladesh to find suitable suppliers.


Each of the buyers can import RMG items of around US$ 3-5 million a year that would facilitate the manufacturers to export a total of about US$ 50 million, he added.


“We even took the responsibility of providing progress report of their buying orders. Our goal is to achieve good results for ABX and the buyers as well as help economic growth of Bangladesh,” Sadaquat said.


He said the company will introduce new buyers from its existing client base in European countries and USA which would help increase the capacity of Bangladeshi exporters.


“We also aim to help attract foreign investment for infrastructure development in Bangladesh,” he added.


Eddie Dufrenne said ABX will help the buyers decide on place orders in Bangladesh as they have problems with logistics.


He said the inflow and outflow of cargo, specially RMG, is increasing here and will grow further in future, considering which ABX opened its subsidiary in the country, the first in the Indian sub-continent.


Company sources said ABX Logistics combines its expertise in road, air and sea transportation and logistics to offer its customers a one stop shopping service.


It would offer Bangladeshi customers and their counterpart abroad air and sea freight, customs clearance, packing, labeling, logistics and warehousing services, quality control and customised services for the Bangladesh market.


The company plans to open a second office in the port city of chittagong by the end of 2000.
