Dhaka-- (UNB) - Germany has provided an addition amount of Tk 26 lakh for urgent relief operation in the country's southwest flood-hit areas.

With this fund, provided by the Humanitarian Relief Department of German Federal Foreign Office in Berlin, a local NGO, Gonoshasthaya Kendra, will supply medicines and dry foods like vitamin fortified Bon Roti and high protein biscuits to the flood-affected people in Satkhira.

The commitment comes on top of Tk 15 lakh grant, which has already been made available by Germany to assuage the sufferings of the flood victims, according to a German Embassy press release.

"In view of the ongoing emergency, further German assistance is under consideration," the release added.

It said the relief operation would mainly focus on the most vulnerable groups of the flood-stricken people like children and expectant mothers.

Meanwhile, University of Science and Technology, Chittagong (USTC) has donated essential medicines worth about Tk 1.5 lakh through Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) for the country's flood victims, said a press release.
