Rangamati, July 3 (UNB) – A weeklong tree fair, aiming to encourage the people to plant increased number of saplings, began here Sunday.

Minister for Chittagong Hill Tract Affairs Kalpa Ranjan Chakma inaugurated the fair on the pourasava premises.

Speaking on the occasion, the CHT Affairs Minister said people cannot survive without trees and called upon all to make the hill tracts a lush green zone by planting trees on fallow lands.

Sixteen stalls have been set up by various government and non-government organizations from Chittagong and Rangamati to display and sell various plant species.

Earlier, a colourful rally was brought out in the town with the participation of students of different educational institutions and officials of various government organisations, including the Forest Department.
