Rangamati, May 15 (UNB) – The Delinquencies’ Correction and Rehabilitation Ordinance enacted 40 years ago is going to come into effect in the Chittgong Hill Tracts.

A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room on May 8.

Senior government officials, local elite and journalists attended the meeting chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Nazrul Islam.

Enacted in 1960 and sent into effect in 1962, the Ordinance was never practiced in the CHT region for reasons unknown.

A 19-member committee was formed at the meeting for taking necessary steps to reactivate the Ordinance. The Deputy Commissioner of the district has been made ex-office president of the committee.

A new officer has also been appointed in this regard.
