Manikganj, July 12 (UNB) – There is an alarming upswing of narcotics business in the town despite the claim of the Narcotics Control Department that they have stepped up their drive against the drug traders.

Every day large quantities of drugs enter into the country from India and are supplied to different districts by the smugglers through Aricha ghat before the nose of the law enforcers, local people alleged.

Sources said drugs like heroin, phensidyl, hemp, afim etc are being carried to different areas by roads and river routes.

The drug trading is also going on unabated in Shibaloya, Ghior, Daulatpur, Horirampur, Singair, Saturia and Sadar upazilas giving rise to anti-social activities in the district.

The local people also alleged that police and concerned officials and employees are taking bribes from the drug traders regularly giving rise to the trading.

Local leaders urged the government to look into the matter and take stringent action against the drug traders without further delay.
