Manikganj, Feb 25 (UNB) – Valuables worth over Tk 1.5 lakh were charred in a devastating fire at Narth Beel Douli village in Sadar upazila Saturday.

Witnesses said the fire, originating from an oven of the house of Abdul Gafur of the village, soon engulfed his dwelling house. Four of his cows were also burnt in the blaze.

Local people brought the fire under control after hours of frantic efforts.

Another report adds: Police recovered the body of a missing man from a drain of a paddy field at Hargaz Nayapara village in Saturia upazila on Friday.

The dead was identified as Ismail, 25, a gold trader and son of Jamil Mia of the village. He was missing since Feb 10, family sources said.

The body was sent to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy.
