Jessore, Jan 8 (UNB) – Ending two-years of detention without trial 27 Rohingya women and children were released from Jessore Central Jail last weak.

Police rescued them –- 12 women and 15 children –while they were being trafficked to India on March 21, 1998. They all are from Harankhali of Cox’s Bazar district.

The prison authority agreed to release them when Dhaka Ahsania Mission came forward to take their responsibilities.

The women released from the jail are: Rukeya, Anwara, Begum Bahar, Rubeda, Sawara, Hamida, Sonamscher, Zamila, Noorasha, Dilder Begum, Noorjahan and Hasina.

A handing over function was held at the jail gate in which Human Rights activists Saleha Begum, official of Dhaka Ahsania Mission Afroza Akhter, among others were present.

Deputy Commissioner of Jessore, Mohammad Aminur Rasul distributed 12 sarees and other clothes among the released women and children.
