Gopalganj, Apr 11 (UNB) – Ahead of the jute cultivation this season, smuggled low quality jute seeds have flooded the markets of the district that forebodes ill for the growers.

Several thousand maunds of Indian jute seeds coming through Satkhira, Benapole and Kaliganj borders are being sold in the rural hats and bazars of Mollarhat Muksudpur, Gazarampur and Kashiani areas.

From these areas, the smuggled seeds are being distributed to other parts of the country amidst “mysterious inaction” of the local administration and others concerned, the local farmers alleged.
