Dhaka, May 20 (UNB) – Police arrested Mosharraf Hossain Raza, one of the five members of the so-called “five star group”, who allegedly used to control tenders of “Nagar Bhaban” using arms and political backing.

Raza and four other members of his “five star group” were earlier blacklisted in “Nagar Bhaban” by the mayor for their involvement in terrorism inside the Nagar Bhaban. Mayor Mohammad Hanif also asked the Dhaka Metropolitan Police to take action against them.

A team of detective branch police raided Raza’s residence at Kalabagan lake circus early today (Saturday) and arrested him.

Later, he was sent to the jail giving one-month detention.  Although there are several cases, including murder, against him, police arrested him under section 54 of CrPc.

Mosharraf Hossain Raza, a former Chhatra League Leader, hails from Agailjhara in Gouranadi of Barisal.

Raza, the former general secretary of Zahurul Haq Hall students union of Dhaka University, was suspended from BCL following the killing of another BCL leader Zakir in Jagannath Hall premises in 1992.

Later, Raza engaged himself with the business and formed the group styled as “Five Star Group” in Nagar Bhaban.

The other members of the group are: Iqbal Hosain Apu, Anwar Hosain, Shahabuddin Farazi and Maostaq Ahmed Sentu alias Kala Sentu, all the former and incumbent members of ruling party student front, BCL.
