Chapainawabganj, Jan 15 (UNB) – A minor boy, Indian national, has been languishing in jail here for over six months due to legal tangle over his repatriation.

Sources said Biswajit Mondal Raja, 13, son of late Barun Mondal of Barbona village of Lalgola thana under Murshidabad district of West Bengal, was arrested on March 16, 2000 when he intruded into Bangladesh territory.

But local special tribunal judge-4 released him on July 23 of the same year and considering his immature age directed the concerned authorities to repatriate him.

The sources said consular system was introduced in place of push-back in order to repatriate the intruders between the two countries, but it takes a lot of time to finalise the matter.

Besides, more 12 Indian nationals are also in the district jail after the expiry of their punishment period due to the same complexities, the sources added.
